S2 - DAY 74/75: APRIL 30 / MAY 1 - THE PRESIDENCY


I hope the RAIN is not getting you all down :(   ....looks like Friday- May 1st -will be SUNNY! :)

There is a lot of information coming your way about your AP TEST on May 11 at 3pm.  As soon as I get it put together in a concise way I will share it with you.  Please check back over the weekend for an extra post which I will also send out as an email to you and your parents.

I will also post a few other EXTRA Review Videos and begin practicing the Concept FRQ.

S2 - DAY 71/72: APRIL 27/28 - CONGRESS

HAPPY WEEK 7 OF QUARANTINE!  Can you believe 6 weeks have gone by already?!?!?

LESSON FOR DAY 71/72: APRIL 27/28:

  • REVIEW UNIT 2:
    • (from last week)WATCH Review Video 5:  Structures, Powers, and Functions of Congress ....100 points
      • After some feedback from YOU and MY SONS:) I eliminated a lot of the interrupting questions....there are only 5? note stops and one open-ended question...just watch the video and take notes for yourself.  THIS IS A GREAT REVIEW ON ALL THINGS CONGRESS AND WELL WORTH IT!... there is also a great explanation on how your ARGUMENT ESSAY will be scored...remember it is 60% of your grade!  I will make these more viewer friendly from this point forward!
    • WATCH Review Video 6:  2.3 Congressional Behavior (25min) ...I cut out the beginning and end...so you just got the juicy part:)
    • COMPLETE A MIND MAP only for Big Idea #1 about the Legislative Branch use SLIDE 6 in this UNIT 2:  INTERACTIONS AMONG BRANCHES OF GOVERNMENT REVIW  Slides 5-52 are all about the Legislative Branch...if you watched the videos the slides should look familiar!  Take a picture and email me your MIND MAP for credit!...If you have not watched Edpuxxle Review Videos 5&6 you can check out this summary on Congress from me:

S2 - DAY 69/70: APRIL 23/24- UNIT 1 REVIEW GAME TIME! ...and start UNIT 2!

Hi Everybody APGOPO! 

I hope you are doing well!  I am a bit concerned and, to be perfectly honest, a bit disappointed in your lack of engagement with classwork.  Only about 5-6 students in each class are diligently completing the work assigned...and... WE STILL HAVE A MONTH TO GO! :(   Please be aware your March 13 Progress Report grade can go down ONE letter grade!

I know this isn't ideal and it's new BUT it may be our reality for a while ...not just for this year...maybe even next year!  We could be going through "waves" of on and off quarantine periods until there is a treatment or a vaccine.  The sooner we get used "school online" the better.

YOUR EDUCATION IS NOT ANY LESS IMPORTANT!  Only YOU have the power to make the most of what is offered to you!  ...DON'T CHECK OUT! ...TRY TO STAY INVOLVED VIRTUALLY!  ...SEE BELOW!

  • EARTH DAY - Wednesday, April 22nd is the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day! To celebrate, The West Leyden Ecology Club has put together a document that gives suggestions/links for activities that you could do in-person (safely, of course) and digitally to celebrate.  They are asking people to post about them on Twitter - Leyden Ecology Club @WestEcology_212 and #leydenpride:

S2 - DAY 66/67: APRIL 20/21 - UNIT 1 REVIEW

HELLO EVERYONE!

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL DAY!  I HOPE YOU FIND SOME TIME TO ENJOY THE SUNSHINE AND BLUE SKIES !

A FEW REMINDERS/ANNOUNCEMENTS:

  • PERIOD 2 ATTENDANCE MONDAY, TUESDAY, THURSDAY, AND FRIDAY!

A HEADS UP FOR WEDNESDAY....

  • GOOGLE MEET WITH YOUR CONGRESSMAN IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES:  On Wednesday at 11am, Congressman Quigley will be synchronously hosting a Google Meet with Leyden students. It's a "check-in" day, so attendance is optional.  There will be lots of conversation about the Federal response to the pandemic and time for Q and A as well.  IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS TO ASK PLEASE EMAIL ME YOUR QUESTIONS AHEAD OF TIME SO THAT WE COULD FORWARD THEM TO THE CONGRESSMAN!  EXTRA CREDIT FOR JOINING IN..EVEN MORE BONUS POINTS FOR ASKING QUESTIONS!

MONDAY/TUESDAY LESSON...

UNIT 1 HAS 4 "BIG IDEAS."  These BIG IDEAS are presented in this: 
SLIDES PRESENTATION:  UNIT 1: FOUNDATIONS OF AMERICAN DEMOCRACY
  • Review the UNIT 1 SLIDES above... if you have been watching the review videos this should be easy...if not, it may be helpful to you to watch the videos below to review the content: Making these videos is not easy! Sorry about being long winded and tongue tied!: 
  • For each BIG IDEA create a MIND MAP ...see below....you can call this a web, graphic organizer, etc. AND feel free to draw freehand - my preference -  or go digital (LUCID CHART ..but don't waste time if you are not tech savvy on this!?)...
    •  ...no need to be artistic - but go for it if you'd like -  just be organized and legible..these can act as great cheat sheets for your test! 
    • In the center you should have the BIG IDEA.  
    • Be sure to include important vocabulary, people, places, events, documents, compromises,  positions, etc. that are relevant. THESE CAN BE FOUND ON THE YELLOW  CONTENT OUTLINE SLIDE AFTER THE BIG IDEA!
    • USE ONLY ONE PIECE OF NOTEBOOK PAPER FOR EACH BIG IDEA! 
    • When you finish send me one picture of of all 4 of your Unit 1 MIND MAPS

S2 - DAY 61/62: APRIL 13/14 - AP REVIEW UNIT 1 & ARGUMENTATIVE ESSAY

TODAY WE WILL:

 FYI:  The AP College Board is posting Review Videos for each course on YouTube.  Here is the link for our class YouTube APGOPO Review Video Playlist.  There are around 10,000 students watching these videos and maintaining the rigor of prepping for a college test! ...Do not put yourself at a disadvantage! YOU CAN DO IT!...EVEN UNDER QUARANTINE :)

I am following the lessons for the review and creating Edpuzzle.  I understand it is time consuming since each video is around 45 minutes but if you want to be BEST prepared for the test, complete ALL of the Edpuzzles.  All will be graded and EXTRA CREDIT PRACTICE will be given.

2.  Last week you were to COMPLETE: 
3. CREATE your own "paper" cheat sheet for the 9 Foundational Documents and SEND ME ONE BIG PICTURE.  It is highly recommended that you have a "cheat sheet" ready  for each document that you can use on the day of the test!  Don't over do it! Use a half sheet of paper for each document and write down bullet points in your own words - do not copy large quotes!  If you are watching the Edpuzzle Review Videos, just take the notes from the lessons.  Here are a couple of nice resources that you can use to review the documents and take notes from:
  • APGOPO REQUIRED DOCUMENTS - Each document is grouped under a BIG IDEA of the course.  The actual documents, audio, and video analysis are attached for each one.
  • Required Docs CRAM SHEET  -  This is in very vague language but includes nice "short" quotes and phrases that are most cited
  • Foundational Documents Quick Reference Guide  - Gives nice main points summary
  • WOW! I FOUND ANOTHER AMAZING SOURCE:  https://app.studyedge.com/authentication/guest/icivics - This is an online AP Gov Course that was made FREE! 
    • Watch this 2 minute instruction video:  Study Edge Instructions Video
    •  The best part is the videos and pdf outlines of each of the 9 Foundational Documents and the 15 SCOTUS cases. Watch the videos and if you can't print out the PDF outlines use them for your notes!
