S2 - DAY 19: LETTER FROM A BIRMINGHAM JAIL

TODAY WE WILL...

1. TAKE HOME TEST FOR CHAPTER 5 -  BUBBLING IN ON MONDAY FIRST THING IN CLASS! 

2. LEYDEN CAUCUS FOR DEMOCRATIC PRIMARIES

3. REVIEW:  HOW DO SOCIAL MOVEMENTS/SOCIAL ACTION AFFECT OUR AMERICAN NATIONAL GOVERNMENT (public opinion, legislative policy, Supreme Court)?  We will do a source analysis of  2 documents related to Social Movements and Equal Protection...

  • Standing Rock:  A New Moment for Native American Rights
EXTRA VIDEO/LISTEN: Watch/listen to FULL VIDEO: A READING OF THE LETTER FROM BIRMINGHAM JAIL...the text of the letter is in the required Foundational Documents packet...it is strongly recommended by AP to read the ENTIRE text and be familiar with it!

4.  REVIEW:
FYI: TOMORROW IN SMALL GROUPS, complete a chart about the important events of each of the movements below.  We will JIGSAW and everyone will have to present what they learned to a group of 6 students:
  • Women
  • Hispanics
  • American Indian
  • Asian & Pacific Islander
  • LGBT
  • Americans with Disabilities 
HOMEWORK:
  • COMPLETE SCOTUS PRESENTATION PROJECT NOTES- Take notes on ONE presentation from each case on the handout you received in class.  You are responsible for knowing ALL 15 cases for the AP TEST.  DUE MONDAY, FEBRUARY 10TH
